I am not thinking about Castiel quietly taking stuff from them that reminds him of them. And keeping the stuff in his pockets. Even when they hated him.

But it’s not in the trenchcoat pocket, but we all know it must’ve been in there. And Sam’s clearly just seeing it for the first time, so that just leaves Dean as the person to first take it out and look at it.

Can you imagine what he must’ve been thinking when he saw it, and what Sam is likely to be thinking there? Because all throughout season 6, right up to the beginning of 7, Cas was acting weird and the Winchesters didn’t trust him. Even when they acted against him, even when Cas knew that they probably felt like they had to kill him, he kept a picture of them in his coat pocket. Maybe he’d just put his hands in them and feel the paper and remember why he was doing what he was doing. Maybe he’d taken the picture when he thought the world was going to end, or when he thought they’d all be dead. Maybe they put the picture back and when Cas looked through his pockets when he woke up in the hospital bed he’d smile. Because he’d helped Sam to be better, and if Sam’s happy, then maybe Dean is too.
